Men’s Wardrobe From the 1940s

1. This businessman’s two-piece suit from the 1940s features a single breasted pin stripe with a notch lapel. A small crown, wide brim Fedora and black leather Oxfords with a plain toe help complete this better dress ensemble for a man of this era. This type of suit was used in films such as The Pianist and Pearl Harbor.

2. This casual civilian look for a man in the 1940s includes a leisure jacket, pleat front slacks, brown cap toe Oxfords and a small crown, wide brim Fedora. This look was featured in the film Chinatown.

3. Formal dinner attire for a man in the 1940s might include this double breasted peak lapel tuxedo jacket worn with pleat front tuxedo pants with satin side stripe. Patent leather Oxfords finish the look. Tuxedos of this type were used in films such as The Pianist, Pearl Harbor, The Godfather and Gangster Squad.

Men’s Wardrobe from the 1700s

1. This pirate costume featuring a tricorn hat, colonial jacket, breeches and cavalier boot from 1720s to the 1760s reflects the looks depicted in the motion picture, Hook.

2. This naval officer uniform dating from the 1760s to the 1780s includes a fore & aft hat, an officer’s tunic, breeches and Farrell top boots. This look was featured in the films Master & Commander and Mutiny on the Bounty.

3. A middle class boy in the 1760s to the 1770s would have worn clothing such as this tricorn hat, short colonial jacket, breeches and buckle shoes. This type of costume was used in films such as John Adams and Sleepy Hollow.

4. A middle class man in the 1760s to the 1770s would have worn clothing such as this tricorn hat, short colonial jacket, breeches and buckle shoes. Costumes of this type were used in the films John Adams and The Patriot.

5. A militia man or mercenary during the 1760s to 1770s would have worn clothing of this type, including a trimmed tricorn hat, double breasted colonial jacket, breeches and buckle shoes. This is an example of the look seen in the films, John Adams, 1776 and Last of the Mohicans.
